On June 20, a sudden rush of adrenaline passed through the MetaDesign Beijing office after realizing one of our projects had been shortlisted for Cannes Lions 2022. Celebrated as ‘the craft beer crafted by Beijing’, Jing-A’s brand identity has already earned them the Best Overall Visual Identity 2021 at the Transform Award Asia. Now, we had discovered it was shortlisted under the category ‘Industry Craft - Illustration/Packaging Design’ for Cannes. For MetaDesign Beijing and Jing-A, it was the first time entering this prestigious competition.
Unfortunately, the day after brought the news that the coveted prize wouldn’t be entering our award cabinet. Nevertheless, the excitement was still high. Truth be told, having been shortlisted among thousands of entries from all over the world at the most prestigious award competition in the creative industry is a sensational achievement in itself. Even more so considering it was the only entry from China shortlisted in the category of ‘Industry Craft’, and part of only a handful coming from the Middle Kingdom under the wider category of ‘Craft’.
For Jing-A and MetaDesign this is great recognition for the creative partnership that paved the way to such outstanding work, carried out hand-in-hand with the Jing-A team and their Creative Director, Becky Lane, who developed the creative concepts for the seasonal brews. Once again, a demonstration that when time and creative opportunities are placed in skillful hands, magic can truly happen.
